LAZURE WORKSHOPS:
Introductory and Advanced Levels

Offered by master Lazure artist Robert Logsdon. He apprenticed in Europe before returning and introducing this art/method to the U.S. Color study has been a passion for him nearly his whole life, expressed in his paintings, whether on canvas or walls. He has been professionally active in this area for over 30 years.

ColorSpace offers weekend and week-long workshops

Learn this unique wall painting technique and color theory while actually painting a space, prepared in advance with the appropriate white paint. Experience the beauty of this light-filled, translucent color while joining with others in this community experience. In this way, Lazure painting becomes a new social art – much needed in our time.

Experience the social dynamic of the team sharing the application of color washes on the large surfaces. Learn methods used when painting alone, (smaller surfaces are painted by one or two people at a time) but the emphasis is on painting together. The result is a gift to the community – for many to enjoy.

Consider organizing a workshop for your community or for your employees as a social experience – the benefit being a lovely Lazure-colored space and the community building aspect of teamwork and new knowledge. Learn and be nourished by color while helping to create a beautiful Colored-Space.

This method is mildly aerobic. Because we work as a team the level of activity can be adjusted to participant's ability and comfort. Those in wheelchairs can mix and help brush on the lower level of the wall.

Whether you are an artist, fine house painter, interior designer, home-owner, general contractor, or just a fun-loving social being you'll enjoy this experience. Join together to paint each others rooms. hire a professional Lazure artist to assist if you like. Add Lazure painting to the subcontracts you can offer.

Practical Arrangements for Workshops

1. Refer to "Contracts"

2. Is this workshop for your group only or is it also open to the public?

3. Who is responsible for publicity and announcement in your area? It will be posted on my website.

4. Determine the space to be painted and calculate the surface square foot total. Do not subtract area for windows and doors unless it is more than half the wall space Describe heights or area needing scaffolding.

5. The color scheme can be worked out in advance by arranging a design contract. It can also be done during the workshop – on the spot in the space – offering participants even more of the actual experience of lazure.

6. Together we will determine how many participants may be accepted into the workshop.

7. It is helpful to have sample boards prepared in advance using identical paint to that used on the wall preparation. This may be matt board, chip board, or any material that will remain stiff (not curl) after priming and finishing. Arrangements for preparing the boards made with someone there or with me. Artists canvas pads may also be used, but not water color pads, unless heavy weight.

8. Walls need to be prepared in advance. See: "Preparing Walls for Lazure Painting." This may also be contracted with ColorSpace when preferred (time allowing).

9. We can discuss the workshop plans to determine how much classroom experience and color theory to arrange and how much time to have painting walls. A work space or classroom will be useful for presentations and for preparing mediums and colors for the lazure painting.

10. Most materials, tools and equipment will be supplied by Color Space, except when reaching your location requires flying. In that case you will be asked to provide a few essentials such as ladders and buckets. Materials such as brushes, colors, and binders would them be mailed in advance.

11. A varnish coat for extra protection is often applied over lazure. You may choose to arrange this yourself after the workshop or ask ColorSpace to arrange this for you. We recommend Modern Master's Dead Flat water based varnish or the lowest luster water based polyurethane you can find in your area.

Fees and budgets will be determined from above information. See "Contracts" for arrangements.

Robert Logsdon offers workshops regularly. Please check back for times and locations, or contact Mr. Logsdon for further information.
